Grand jury indicts man for shooting rampage at Phoenix-area mall

Charges include attempted murder and aggravated assault

GLENDALE, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An Arizona grand jury has indicted a 20-year-old construction worker on 39 charges in connection with a shooting rampage at a popular suburban Phoenix mall.

Prosecutors say Armando Hernandez Jr. shot and wounded three people on the night of May 20 at the Westgate Entertainment District. One of the victims, a 19-year-old man, remains hospitalized in critical condition. A 16-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman also got shot. Their injuries weren't life-threatening.

The grand jury indicted Hernandez on charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and 10 counts of aggravated assault.
