911 calls before Sonya Massey’s shooting include 1 from her mother asking officers not to ‘hurt her’

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Records released by Illinois authorities show that two emergency response calls were made from the home of Sonya Massey in the days leading up to her death. In one call released Wednesday, her mother said her daughter was suffering a mental health crisis and asked the no officers be sent “that are prejudiced.” Former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the Black woman in her home. He has pleaded not guilty. Also, the sheriff’s department released Grayson’s personnel records, confirming his past record and the violation of use of force standards that led to his dismissal.
