JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Officials in Mississippi’s capital city say water flowing from city faucets is safe to drink. U.S. District Court Judge Henry Wingate ordered Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and water manager Ted Henifin to appear in court Wednesday because of comments Lumumba made at a June 14 news conference. Wingate says he was worried the mayor “may have misinformed the public” about whether Jackson’s water was safe to drink. The mayor had been promoting a city initiative to distribute water filters. Wingate says he was concerned residents would think the water wasn’t safe to drink without a filter. Lumumba and Henifin say Jackson’s water is safe.
