MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan announced Friday that he is resigning this month to take a position with the online gaming company Roblox.

Donovan, a Democrat, was first elected attorney general in 2016. He previously served as the state’s attorney in Chittenden County.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Vermont for nearly the last 16 years as an elected official,” he said in a statement, adding that the attorney general’s office “has a strong team in place to carry out its duties to protect Vermonters” until the next attorney general is sworn in.

He is accepting a position as director of public policy and U.S. state strategies for Roblox, a company based in San Mateo, California. He will remain in Vermont and his resignation is effective at the end of the business day on June 20.

“While this is a difficult decision, I’m excited that this new role will allow me to continue to advance consumer protections,” Donovan said. “I will also continue to advocate for kids, teens, and their families while learning about and building safeguards into emerging trends and technologies.”
