Mark Thompson to remain CNN Chairman ahead of Paramount-WBD deal closure

(CNN, KYMA) - The merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is set to take effect Tuesday after months of uncertainty.

The combined company, named Skydance, announced its leadership team Monday morning.

Mark Thompson will remain in place as Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of CNN as the Ellison family acquires WBD, the news network's parent company.

Thompson has led CNN for the past three years, and the announcement signals there won't be an immediate combination of CNN with Paramount's CBS News unit.

In addition, Bari Weiss will remain in place as Editor-In-Chief of CBS News.

David Ellison, who is the CEO of Skydance, plans to focus on strategy while co-CEO Ynon Kriez will handle day-to-day operations.
