Sailboat lights on fire in Fort Lauderdale marina

FORT LAUDERALE, Fla. (NBC, KYMA) - Firefighters battled a fast-moving boat fire in Fort Lauderdale Sunday morning.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded around 6 a.m. Eastern after multiple 911 calls reported a vessel on fire.

Firefighters found a 60-foot catamaran sailboat engulfed in flames.

Crews had the fire under control within about 30 minutes, but it took another hour to fully extinguish.

No one was aboard, and firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes, a boat docked alongside it sustained only cosmetic damage.

Inside the sailboat, the fire left walls and ceilings blackened, with melted insulation and wiring hanging from above.

The exterior was also heavily charred, with damaged metal and debris scattered across the vessel.

After the fire was extinguished, crews pumped water from the boat to keep it from sinking.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
