Students recognized for perfect scores on state test

Yuma, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma School District One recognized 58 students that got perfect scores on the Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment.

Teachers and parents gathered at Woodard Jr. High to celebrate the students’ achievements and hard work.

Students were recognized one by one from each school in the district if they got a perfect score in either the math, writing or English Language Arts part of the test.

Superintendent Denis Ponder says the students’ achievements demonstrate their work ethic.

“I think it speaks a lot to the students and their work ethic and that they’re coming to school prepared," Ponder said.

"They’ve got a lot of great support at home helping them learn as well and then we do the best that we can when we get them into our schools to move them along to push them, to challenge them, to continue to grow, and to become the best version of themselves each and every year."

Ponder also says this would not be possible without the time and sacrifice from teachers and the student’s parents.
