Volatile substance found after search warrant executed in Louisiana

SLIDELL, La. (NBC, KYMA) - Several roads are closed in a neighborhood in Slidell, Louisiana after the FBI and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a duplex where volatile substances were found.

According to the FBI, around 6 a.m. Eastern Wednesday, a federal search warrant was executed in the area of City Drive, near the Old Spanish Trail.

The investigation came from a tip that had been provided by the St. Tammany Parish Narcotics Unit to the FBI.

According to the FBI, during the search, volatile materials were found inside the building.

The duplex was evacuated and one person is currently in custody and cooperating with authorities.

The residence involved in the current law enforcement activity is near Abney Elementary school.

The principal was notified and FBI and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office bomb techs are working on rendering the scene safe.

At this time, the FBI is currently on scene working with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, the Slidell Police Department and Acadian Ambulance.

The public has asked to avoid the area until the scene is safe.
