Las Vegas police officer dies following shooting

LAS VEGAS (NBC, KYMA) - A Las Vegas police officer has died after a shooting while responding to a call Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say officers were called to a business on East Tropicana Avenue after reports of an armed person who appeared to be intoxicated and was waving a firearm.

When officers confronted the suspect, officials say gunfire was exchanged.

A 30-year-old officer was shot and later died at the hospital.

The officer had served with the Las Vegas Police Metropolitan Police Department since 2023 and was also a Marine Corps Veteran.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the suspect in this case was also pronounced dead at the scene.
