Joe Orduño Open Men’s League brings talent of all levels together for the summer

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA) - Some baseball players' careers end after high school while others make it all the way to the professional level. Regardless of when your time to hang up the cleats comes, the Joe Orduño Open Men's League gives athletes a chance to lace 'em back up every summer.

Although the league is available for anyone, some of the Desert Southwest's best come out to play.

"There's some former college guys [and] some former pros," said recent Cibola graduate and Ottawa University commit Jordan Schofield. "It's definitely competitive. It's not like a normal men's league... It's getting me ready for, uh, college."

"It's not too demanding, but the competition is still good, so you can't take pitches off - you can't really take innings off on the field," added Gila Ridge graduate and Park University commit. "You still gotta play good baseball, but it's a little bit more chill than high school or travel ball."

For players that are still in the midst of their careers, the league gives players to refine, or redefine, their technique.

"The benefit that come from this is ultimately the reps," said Gila Ridge alum and Park University sophomore Derrick Parsons. "A lot of using what I do at the tee at home, I can use it here without any failure or any worry about a coach looking at me and scraping my name off the list."
