Queer Spectra happening later this month

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) - Imperial Valley Equity & Justice (IVEJ) and queercasa are hosting Queer Spectra later this month.

The event is taking place Friday, July 31, at Prestige Event Center, located at 1111 Yourman Road, with the doors opening at 7:30 p.m.

During the event, which is said to be queercasa's first Pride celebration, there will be live drag performances from Faffy Monay from Yuma and Rosalinda from Calexico.

This is to showcase "an art exhibition highlighting queer artists from across the Imperial Valley and Mexicali."

"Arts and cultural programming sit at the front of our mission because they're how a community tells its own story," said Fernando Reza, Communications lead at IVEJ. "We're proud to partner with queercasa and the voice they bring to a community that has too often gone unseen and underserved in our Valley. The theme of the show reflects that: escaping the binary of black and white, into a spectrum of expression. This celebration belongs to queercasa and the greater Imperial Valley queer community, and we're honored to partner with them on this very special event."
