Large tree falls onto public bus and two vehicles in California

SAWTELLE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A large tree fell onto a public bus and two other vehicles in Sawtelle, California Friday night.

Surveillance video captured the moment a 30-foot tree toppled over into the busy street. People were even startled across the street during their late night walk.

The tree fell just before 11:00 p.m. Pacific because of heavy downpours that have been soaking the area.

Crews began to clear the debris soon after the incident.

Katie McFarland was inside her car after just letting her boyfriend out when the tree fell. She described it as the "biggest noise" she has ever heard.

"I was just sitting right in there. It's so so dark. When all of those branches came down on it, it was already getting so dark, and it was so so scary. It was the biggest crash I'd ever heard, and my boyfriend had just gotten out to walk along to like it was so crowded he was gonna go get dinner. And I just see everything go dark. I can't move forward, I can't move back, and I see a little bit of light next to my driver's side, and he's there trying to yank it open to let me out. So, yeah, it was terrifying."

While McFarland and the driver of the bus were both unharmed, it was unclear if there was anyone in the third car involved in the incident.
