Pack Fire in California burns more than 3,000 acres

CROWLEY LAKE, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - The Pack Fire in Mono County, California, sent plumes of smoke billowing into the sky as it scorched more than 3,000 acres of land.

According to Cal Fire, the Pack Fire ignited Thursday at 12:25 p.m. Pacific and fire officials confirmed 28 structures were destroyed by the wildfire and five structures had been damaged by the wildfire.

The Long Valley and McGee Creek communities were ordered to evacuate, while Crowley Lake residents were preparing to be escorted back beginning at 8:00 p.m Pacific, as a previously issued evacuation order was downgraded to a warning, the county’s sheriff’s office announced.

Footage captured at Crowley Lake by Laughing Parrot Productions shows columns of smoke rising into the sky.
