Sinclair and Nexstar to not air ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

(NBC, KYMA) - Two media companies, Sinclair and Nexstar, say they will not be airing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Disney, which owns ABC, already announced that the show would resume starting Tuesday a week after they suspended the show.

In a statement posted to social media, Sinclair said the show will not be shown on their ABC affiliate stations. Instead, Kimmel's show will be replaced with news programming.

Sinclair added that "discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show's potential return."

However, Nexstar and ABC have also said they would pre-empt the show "indefinitely."

Together, Nexstar and Sinclair account for about 70 ABC affiliates, meaning Kimmel's show will not be available to broadcast to tens of millions in the U.S.

The situation is complicated by major business moves from both sinclair and nexstar.

Sinclair is currently exploring merger options for its broadcast business, which would also require FCC clearance, CNBC reported.

At the same time, Nexstar is seeking FCC approval for a $6.2 billion merger with fellow station owner Tegna.
