CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Israel’s Iron Dome intercepts Iranian missiles

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Iranian missiles hit several parts of the Tel Aviv metro area Friday night after Israel struck multiple sites in Iran earlier in the day.

Israel's national ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), said around 35 people were injured in the strikes, Israeli media reported.

According to Avichay Adraee, the IDF's Arabic-language spokesman, Iran launched fewer than 100 rockets toward Israel in two volleys, but most were intercepted or fell short.

"A limited number of buildings were damaged, some as a result of shrapnel from the interceptions," Adraee said.

Photos released by the Israel Fire & Rescue Authority show some of the damage done to buildings in Tel Aviv and emergency officials on the scenes Friday night.

According to the Israel Fire & Rescue Authority, firefighters responded to multiple major incidents in the Tel Aviv metro area, including a high-rise building where they had to evacuate trapped people and put out a fire.

The authority also reported that a grass fire was started by a mortar shell in northern Israel, and missiles landed in open areas around Jerusalem and southern Israel. Shrapnel also reportedly fell on a building in northern Israel, the authority said.

US officials said the American military assisted Israel in shooting down missiles, according to Reuters.
