Trump orders funding cuts for public broadcasting
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at cutting money to the National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting System (PBS).
It directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to end federal funding for NPR and PBS.
The CPB has more budget than over half a billion dollars to fund public radio and television. Congress has specifically set it up as a private entity to protect it from governmental interference and control.
CPB filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration earlier this week after three of its five board members were fired by email.
Many prominent Republicans have been vocal about public broadcasters due to the perceived left-leaning bias in how they cover the news.
