LONDON (AP) — Britain’s new Labour Party government has set out its plans for “national renewal,” saying it will calm the country’s febrile politics and ease its cost-of-living crisis. The government laid out its agenda at the grand State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday. King Charles III read out a speech written by the government outlining legislation to stabilize the U.K.’s public finances and spur economic growth. The government said it would get more houses and infrastructure projects built, strengthen workers’ rights and create a new industrial strategy. The center-left Labour Party won Britain’s July 4 election by a landslide, as voters eager for change after years of political and economic pain ousted the Conservative Party after 14 years in office.
