Vermonters, pummeled by floods exactly a year apart, are assessing damage, beginning cleanup

Associated Press

PLAINFIELD, Vt. (AP) — Gov. Phil Scott says Vermont is better positioned to recover from floods caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl thanks to lessons learned from another devastating flood exactly a year ago. Beryl’s remnants dumped more than 6 inches on parts of Vermont by Thursday. Two people were killed as the deluge damaged homes, knocked out bridges, cut off towns and retraumatized some people still waiting for assistance after last year’s floods. Scott praised the resilience of Vermonters who often make do without help in rural areas. But he urged them to take time to report damage and not to be afraid to ask for assistance.
