Naval Air Facility El Centro announces groundbreaking for new firehouse
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The new structure replaces two World War II era buildings used to house the fire department base.
In 2021, the U.S. Senate passed a Continuing Resolution that included a provision for $565 million in funding for the new facility.
“After decades of planning we, get to replace ‘temporary’ buildings from 1942 with a new structure to house ‘Fed Fire’ and their gear,” said Kristopher Haugh, the Naval Air Facility El Centro (NAFEC) Public Affairs Officer.
The project includes an apparatus high bay with apparatus support to include personal protective equipment, storage, self-contained breathing apparatus compressor room, protective clothing laundry, fire extinguisher inspection station area, day room, kitchen/ dining, dorm rooms, laundry, fitness, and recreation rooms as well as training and administration spaces
The NAFEC Fire and Emergency Services said they are committed to the protection of life and property by providing exceptional emergency services.
