FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida sheriff’s deputy would have seen bodies if he’d opened a building’s door during 2018’s Parkland school massacre. That was the testimony Tuesday at the trial of former Broward County Deputy Scot Peterson, who is charged with failing to confront the shooter who murdered 17 people Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Testimony showed that Peterson got within steps of a school building’s door before taking cover. A police officer said that if he’d opened it, he would have seen two bodies immediately. Peterson says that because of echoes, he couldn’t pinpoint the shooter. The deputy could face almost 100 years in prison if convicted of felony child neglect.
