DACA hits 11-year milestone

KYMA

(KYMA, KECY) - The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) hit an 11-year milestone on Thursday.

Under the program, young people without legal authorization to be in the U.S. were allowed to work in the country without imminent threat of removal.

But the program has had many legal challenges and the fate of some DACA recipients remains in limbo.

On Thursday, President Biden called on Congress to provide these “dreamers” with long-term protections through immigration reform but Congress has not been able to come to a deal for many years.

There could be another legal ruling on the program soon.
