Imperial County walks for MLK day
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) -5 cities across imperial county joined forces to walk side by side to remember Dr. Martin Luther king jr. More than a hundred people walked together starting at the MLK JR. Sports Pavilion to honor the I have a dream hero.
"This is what it’s all about the people's movement... and as you see today it’s a beautiful bouquet of different colors and ethnicity which is homage to Dr. king," said Marlene Thomas.
Founder of Imperial Valley Chain Reaction says their purpose is to bring the community together… And with 3 years of participating in this event… It keeps getting better each year.
“It’s very emotional... seeing the outcome the people that actually showed up today and this is what it’s all about bring the community together especially the younger generation,” said Jessica Smith.
Honoring his legacy every year is always important but it’s also emotional.
Imperial County has been doing this event since the late 80’s and hope the younger generation will continue the tradition
