Yuma Union High School District #70 hosts first meeting of the year

New president and vice president's inauguration ceremony highlights the meeting

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - David Lara was elected as the new Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) President and Carlos Gonzalez was also elected Vice President for YUHSD's #70 governing board.

A key topic discussed during the meeting centered around promoting behavior and disciplinary action.

David Lara points to the district's Vista school, an alternative school in Yuma that offers students with behavioral issues counseling and guidance.

"It's a second chance for the kids, and I guess it's a way to demonstrate that Yuma high school really cares about giving kids a second chance," says YUHSD President David Lara.

Lara says he's looking forward to presenting policies to prevent misbehavior and increase discipline for both the Vista school and district schools.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 8.
