Gallego staffs up in run against Sen. Sinema
PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) - Democratic congressman Ruben Gallego is assembling his campaign team in anticipation of his upcoming run for senate here in Arizona. The former marine combat veteran has been looking strong against Sinema in the latest poll, with him tied almost tied for first place with a GOP candidate at 40% while Sinema nets only 13% in a distant third.Â
Gallego has enlisted Chuck Rocha as a senior advisor. A former campaign manager for Bernie Sanders, Rocha is tasked with Latino outreach... a wise choice considering Bernie Sanders did well with Latino voters in Nevada.
He also enlisted someone who was a chief advisor to John Fetterman, one of the few hard left candidates running last cycle, who flipped a senate seat in Pennsylvania.
This shows that Gallego is planning on running as a progressive, more left leaning candidate.
His chief potential opponent in the primary so far is more moderate congressman Greg Stanton, representing areas east of Phoenix.
One key difference is Title 42. Gallego has called for its end. Stanton has called for more of a financial plan on securing the border before calling for Title 42's termination.
