Bed Bath and Beyond says it may not survive

(CNN / KYMA, KECY) - The Bed Bath and Beyond company admitted Thursday in a regulatory filing it probably won't be able to continue operating as is.

The filing says the chain is exploring possibilities, and a bankruptcy filing is among them.

That goes along with what analysts have been predicting for some time.

Bed Bath and Beyond's stock plunged more than 20% Thursday, landing it below two dollars per share.

They say it's never been that low before.

The company operates about 950 stores and employs 32,000 workers.

A bankruptcy filing wouldn't necessarily mean the chain would close its stores.
