Father of I-8 gunshot victim pleads not guilty

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Jose Gallardo pleads not guilty at the Yuma Superior Court on Tuesday who was accused of murdering his 19-year-old son.

Gallardo's next appearance in court will be on February 7.

On December 12, 2022, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man lying on a roadway shoulder on the I-8 near Dateland.

Deputies arrested 36-year-old Gallardo from Mesa, Ariz. over ten hours later.

The victim was Mario Nez, a 19-year-old found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead on the scene 10 miles from where Gallardo was arrested.
