Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo is continuing their tradition of giving back to families in need

Amberly's Place families have been adopted by Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo and are being surprised with Christmas dinners - 13 On Your Side's Vanessa Gongora shares what the experience is like

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo is getting in the holiday spirit and adopted families in need making sure their stomachs are full this Christmas.

The organization is giving back this holiday season by donating Christmas dinners to 10 families of four at Amberly's Place, which even includes pumpkin pie.

Peggy Collins, Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo Director, says each box of food is filled with turkey, potatoes, milk, bread and more.

"Yes, there's a pie in there with some whipped cream. You can't have a pie without whipped cream, right?," says Collins. "But also enough so that they can have additional meals for after the holidays."

The organization formerly known as Jaycee's Rodeo has been giving back for over 20 years and Collins says it's important to help others.

"You know I was taught at a very young age that you may be having it hard, a tough time but there's always somebody having a tougher time than you and you need to give back," continues Collins. "You need to help these people."

Amberly's Place Executive Director Tori Bourguignon, says they are blessed with a community that rallies behind those in need.

"And victims of abuse are very much a population that requires a tremendous amount of support in order to recover and heal and go from being a victim of abuse to survivor, and ultimately where we want them to be, thriver," explains Bourguignon.

The dinners are coming as a surprise to the families.

"That's the part that I wish everyone can see is the grateful and just an amazing amount of surprise, but also just gratitude for realizing that there are people out there that really do care and organizations in our community that really do care about what's happening for folks," mentions Bourguignon.

The families will pick up their own box and cook the food with their loved ones.
