Local elementary teachers receive training to support military students

L.I.N.K.S. for Teachers is a training program that helps teachers support their military-connected students

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Teachers at James B. Rolle Elementary participated in a L.I.N.K.S. for Teachers class to support their military-connected students.

Marine Corps Family Team Building provided the program that gives teachers a foundational knowledge of the United States Marine Corps says the Yuma School District One.

L.I.N.K.S. stands for Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge, and Skills.

The Yuma School District One mentioned that James B. Rolle Elementary School is one of the top three schools with military-connected students in Yuma.

The program discussed Marine Corps history, common terms, acronyms, facts about MCAS Yuma, etc.

Including important topics and understanding common symptoms of stress with military-connected students.

The press release mentioned this training will help teachers support their students "with the goal being to try to work with the student in the classroom to prepare some of those skills, in advance,” stated MCAS Yuma School Liaison Officer Candice Brown.

The Yuma School District One says the teachers have gained important knowledge and resources to help support their military-connected students' experiences.
