Search for missing Georgia toddler has begun

CHATHAM COUNTY, Geor. (NBC) - Police in Chatham County, Georgia will search a landfill in an effort to find the body of 20-month-old Quinton Simon.

Reported missing on October 5th, police have been searching for him ever since.

Last week, investigators said they believe Quinton is dead.

Not only that, they named his mother, Leilani Simon, as the prime suspect.

On Tuesday, October 18, Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said the focus of the search has shifted to a specific portion of a landfill.

He said that's where the evidence has led them.

"I have every belief that we will find his remains here at the landfill."

Additionally, "Our team posted this picture of Quinton here on the wall of this operations center as a reminder of who we are searching for and why we continue to work so terribly hard. We want justice for Quinton just like everybody else, and we want to find his remains so we can give him a proper resting place."

Chief Hadley said the search of the particular area of the landfill will not be a quick process, and he said it would be a physically, emotionally and mentally grueling task for those involved.
