Coal mine explosion happened in Turkey on Friday

BARTIN, Turkey (NBC) - At least 41 people died in an explosion at a coal mine in Turkey's northern Bartin province on Friday night.

Not only that, there may be more than a dozen people either missing or trapped in the mines. So far, rescue workers are hard at work.

There were 110 miners working in the shaft at the time of the explosion in the province of Bartin.

About half of those workers managed to get out of the mine on their own.

Officials say a fire in the mine has ceased. However, efforts are still ongoing to isolate and cool the fire below ground.

The cause of the blast is still under investigation.
