Vice President Kamala Harris travels to Japan

TOKYO, Japan (NBC) - Vice President Harris departed Washington, D.C. on Sunday en route to Tokyo, Japan where she will lead the Presidential Delegation to the State Funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.

Abe died in July after being shot at a campaign event in the city of Nara.

According to a senior Biden Administration official, Harris will arrive in Tokyo on Monday and hold a bilateral meeting with Japan's current Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida.

On Tuesday, she and the Presidential delegation will attend Abe's funeral.

Vice President Harris is set to have meetings with other world leaders while in Japan and will travel to South Korea later in the week.
