VIDEO: New unemployment numbers released

(NBC) - The number of Americans filing for jobless benefits rose slightly last week by 5,000 to 213,000.

More Americans applied for jobless benefits last week.

According to the Department of Labor, unemployment applications increased by 5,000 to 213,000/

The previous week's numbers were actually revised down by 5,000 to 208,000, the lowest figure since May.

And the four week moving average for claims fell by 6,000 to 216,750.

This as the Federal Reserve Board continues to raise interest rates to fight inflation by cooling the economy and tightening the labor market.

So far, businesses are still eager to find workers, posting more than 11 million job openings back in July.
