Yuma High School and Kofa High School put together a halftime performance for their football rivalry game

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Both high school dance programs from Yuma High School (YHS) and Kofa High School (KFS) collaborated and did a halftime performance at the annual football rivalry game at the Yuma High campus.

The Yuma High Cell Block Dancers and the Kofa High School Royal Dancers came together to put on a performance for the annual rivalry football game between both schools on September 9 at the Doan Field on the Yuma High campus.

According to the Yuma Union High School District, this would be the second year in a row where both schools performed together for a halftime show for their schools' football game.

Both YHS Dance Director Alyssa Calvillo and KHS Dance Director Ashley Atherton collaborated together with Google meetings and evening practices to prepare their dancers for the halftime performance.

“As a senior, being able to dance and collaborate with another high school from my community allowed me to create lifelong memories and it was great seeing the diversity between the two teams unite,” KHS performing dancer Desiraee Diaz said.

“Dance is all about collaboration and working together to create something meaningful and I feel like both schools coming together shows the dancers how strong and powerful their presence is when combined,” Calvillo said. “It has always been a pleasure working with [Kofa High School] and we hope to continue to bring the fire.”

"I feel like it's a great way to show our competitiveness while still having fun and showing that both schools can collaborate and make something great together,” YHS Dance Club President Analy Duran Tafoya said.
