7.6 magnitude earthquake hits Mexico City

MEXICO CITY, Mexi. (NBC) - A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit La Placita de Morelos in the state of Michoacan in Mexico.

The trembler was strong enough to cause buildings and power lines to shake about 500 miles away in Mexico City.

Frightened residents streamed out onto the streets as a precaution.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of damage, but that could change as officials converge on the epicenter of the earthquake.
