School crossing guard died due to injuries from accident in Yuma

A 70-year-old woman was hit by a car on September 1 around 24th street and 8th Avenue

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A 70-year-old woman Maria Cecilia Chavez was working as a school crossing guard and was hit by a car on September 1, she recently died on September 6 due to her injuries.

According to the Yuma Police Department, on Thursday, September 1 around 3:46 p.m., there was an accident involving a 60-year-old woman driving a Toyota Rav4 that hit a pedestrian while turning left on 24th Street from 8th Avenue.

The pedestrian was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center and given treatment who then was transported to a Phoenix-area hospital for advanced care said the Yuma Police Department.

As of September 6, the Yuma Police Department said Maria Cecilia Chavez has succumbed to her injuries.
