Climate protesters take stand outside annual Congressional Baseball Game
(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - The Congressional Baseball Game got underway in Washington on Thursday - an event that has been an annual bipartisan tradition since 1909.
Raising money for D.C. area charities like the Boys and Girls Club of greater Washington, and the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
This summer marks 5 years since the shooting at the Republican practice, and since then, the team has moved to a new location and boosted security measures.
Many say this is one of the few bipartisan things they do in congress by teaming up to play a baseball game against members across the aisle.
This year's game went into a rain delay after the Republican team took a 4-0 lead - but the GOP was able to hold on to that early lead, beating the democrats 10-0.
Meanwhile, dozens of protesters showed up outside of Nationals Park in Washington D.C. to protest climate change.
The group set up near the entrance of the park and many people held up signs and listened to speakers.
The group believes that lawmakers have not done enough to combat climate change.
At least two of the protesters wearing red shirts sat down near the entrance to the park and were detained by officers - but all protests were peaceful.
