Two arrested for attempting to smuggle over $150k of meth on Interstate 10

One person was a US citizen and another was an undocumented immigrant, according to Border Patrol agents

INDIO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - US Customs and Border Protection says two people were arrested after accusations of smuggling illegal drugs.

At about 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, agents stopped a Nissan Maxima on Interstate 10 near Dillon Road, when a K-9 team investigated the car.

Agents found a storage container and backpack inside of the car's trunk and they both contained packages that tested positive for meth.

The 84 pounds of meth had an estimated street of value of over $151,000.

Both occupants of the vehicle, at 48-year-old man and 62-year-old woman, were placed under arrest and will be facing federal charges.
