Rep. Vargas says the Remain in Mexico program is a “cruel” decision that should’ve never been implemented
California Representative Juan Vargas shares his opinion on the termination of the Migrant Protection Protocols or the "Remain in Mexico" program
WASHINGTON (KYMA, KECY) - Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA) releases a statement regarding the Supreme Court's opinion on Biden v. Texas.
“This ruling is a welcome step toward restoring humanity to our outdated immigration system,” says Rep. Vargas.
The 5-4 decision allows the Biden Administration to terminate the "Remain in Mexico" program.
“Immigrants come to the United States seeking refuge and better opportunities. Unfortunately, thousands of asylum seekers have been subjected to harm through the Remain in Mexico program.
"It is one of many cruel Trump-era immigration policies that should have never been implemented. It is legal to seek asylum in the United States, and we must continue working to ensure that every immigrant is treated with humanity, dignity, and respect.
"The Biden Administration and DHS must terminate the Remain in Mexico program with the utmost urgency. Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a significant victory, but the fight to fix our broken immigration system is not yet over.
