VIDEO: Biden sends letter inquiring gas prices to oil refiners

(KYMA, KECY/NBC) - President Biden sends a letter to several top oil refiners about the recent raise of gas prices and encourages them to increase production of gas.

According to a White House statement, President Biden sent a letter to oil companies such as Chevron, BP, ExxonMobil, Marathon and others to help ease gas prices and questioned their record profits.

Biden also included to increase supply of gasoline, diesel and other products refineries offer.

President Biden called for the Secretary of Energy to hold emergency meetings about this situation and directed the oil refineries to provide explanations for any reduction in output since 2020 and also offer ideas that would address immediate inventory, gas production and price issues to the secretary.

Biden has also expressed that he is prepared to "use all reasonable and appropriate tools and emergency authorities to increase refinery capacity and output in the near term."
