Blazing Desert Comic Con returns to San Luis for first time since the COVID-19 pandemic

After a two year wait, the event was able to come back for local fans of all ages - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, local comic and pop culture fans in San Luis got a chance to show off their best cosplay.

Along with interacting with other fans over at the Blazing Desert Comic Con.

The Con's director Daniela Ayala, says while the event is small they're still happy to put it on.

“We’re small but all the hard work that we put into it, people are grateful for it, and that’s really why we keep doing it,” Ayala said.

San Luis welcomed the event back with open arms.

Those who came had a chance to buy merchandise like posters and bobbleheads, meet and greet with voice actors, enjoy a gaming room, and attend panels.

“Mostly what we do is just bring local artists, local cosplayers and kind of just give them a space to show off their hard work,” Ayala said.

The con brought out people of all ages, including Chris and Al Jones.

Who, for the day, decided to go as iconic Star Wars jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The couple is happy there’s an event like this they can go to locally…

As they say some of the bigger comic cons have crowds they’d prefer not to deal with.
It also gives them a chance to show off their fandom with others.

“It’s not only for young children, I mean we’re in our, we’re seven decades old, and so anybody can do it, I guess I didn’t get enough dressing up when I was a kid,” Al said.

Those with the event say they’re looking forward to the next one…

As it will be their big ten year anniversary.
