Two taken to YRMC after car crash, truck drives into canal nearby

SOEMRTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department says two cars crashed on County 17th and two people were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, then a truck drove into canal soon after.

The incident happened at County 17th and S. Somerton Avenue when the Fire Department found a Ford Mustang and a Jeep Grand Cherokee against a guardrail.

Both drivers said they had pains in their necks and were both taken to YRMC.

While an ambulance was on scene, a farm service truck was driving near an canal to avoid the incident but the dirt road gave way and the truck dove into it.

The driver and passenger in the truck were not injured, although the vehicle was later pulled out of the canal by a forklift operator.

The Somerton Police Department is currently investigating.
