San Francisco hospital makes 1000th lung transplant

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - UCSF says it reached its 1000th lung transplant patient since the program began in 1991.

Patrick Alexander, 60, made a statement regarding the transplant saying, "We don't know much about the donor family or the donor his or herself, but we're just so grateful."

Alexander is expected to fully recover within a year and may have his life extended by 10 to 12 years.
