40-acre fire near Colorado River breaks out

The cause of the fire is still unknown and as of now it is mostly contained, but still is still considered an active scene

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A 40-acre brush fire along the Colorado River near the Arizona-California state line was reported Friday night.

The fire is happening next to East County Five 1/2 Street, right next to the Yuma River RV park.

According to the Imperial Fire department, it initially responded and fought the fire for about two hours.

However, the fire happens to be on the Arizona side of the state line.

Multiple agencies have helped fight the fire, but ultimately, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire management are officially on the scene.

Today the fire is still active, as the department says there are still small flames throughout the area.

Thankfully, the department also says the nearby RV park is not currently in any danger.

The fire is still active, but department Captain Brian Perrone says they expect it to soon be put out completely.

“I would say at least the next two to three days, possibly longer it just depends on the type of weather we get over the next couple days, I know there’s a storm front coming in so there’s a possibility that it’ll be good to go within the next couple days,” Perrone said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The department says they'll send an investigator once it's safe to do so.
