2 found after fleeing from vehicle stop

Wellton Border Patrol Sector

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Wellton Border Patrol agents with the help of the Arizona Department of Public Safety State Troopers tracked down two people who fled from an attempted vehicle stop.

The flee happened last week when a white Ford pickup truck failed to yield to a trooper's emergency lights.

They drove off the roadway down Interstate 8, close to mile marker 40.

Both people quickly exited the truck and ran into the desert.

Agents who were assisting the troopers used shoeprints to locate them.

Hiding in nearby bushes were the driver and passenger, but as agents and troopers neared, one ran off again into a housing area.

The one who surrendered was in possession of a handgun and the individual who fled for the second time was found soon after.

A trooper took the handgun, both people and seized the truck—which was reported stolen.
