Gas prices may rise due to Russia-Ukraine tension

MGN

(KYMA, KECY) - As war rises between Russia and Ukraine, gas prices are also going up in the United States and analysts say those numbers may continue to increase.

Gas prices reached their peak, being at their highest in at least seven years and California reached its own record in late February.

Demand for oil is back to pre-pandemic levels and gas prices have been surging for over a year with the national average for gas reaching $3.53 a gallon.

"The global oil supply is still kind of tight and then you have this, this uncertainty about what's gonna happen with Russia and Ukraine and that throws a lot of other uncertainty into the mix," said AAA Spokesperson Andrew Gross.

Russia is a large producer of oil and their exports may be cut off due to retaliation for United States-placed sanctions.
