Yuma Territorial Marathon held at Cocopah Casino and Resort

Runners gathered in front of the casino early this morning and took off all the way to San Luis for the race - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - While many like to spend Saturday mornings in bed, others got up and went for a run. The Yuma Territorial Marathon went down at 6:00 a.m Saturday morning.

Runners gathered at the Cocopah Casino and Resort, running all the way down to San Luis for a full marathon. Others also participated in shorter races, like a half-marathon and 10K. The event was put on by the Caballeros De Yuma. Frank Saldana, a member of the Caballeros and the marathon's chairman, say the race is designed to bring people together.

“I think it’s great, the camaraderie that happens with that, the people that are involved in it too, you know it’s for the community, it’s for people, especially in this day and age with everything that’s going on,” Saldana said.

Runners who placed in the top three of the marathon won cash prizes, and everyone who ran got medals and t-shirts for participating.
