Judge rules Vanessa Bryant and others won’t undergo psych evaluation
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - A California judge ruled Vanessa Bryant and others won't have to undergo psychiatric evaluations before their lawsuit goes to trial.
The wife of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and the families of the others killed in the January 2020 helicopter crash are suing over leaked photos from the accident.
The civil lawsuit against LA County claims the photos were shared by county fire and sheriff's department workers in settings irrelevant to the investigation.
LA County filed a motion arguing independent medical examinations are needed to determine whether the emotional distress they suffered was caused by the photo leak or the crash itself.
The judge denied the request because the evaluations would be "untimely."
The lawsuit seeks undisclosed damages, claiming civil rights violations, negligence, emotional distress, and violation of privacy.
The trial is set to start in February.
