San Luis Council Member appointed to western Arizona executive committee

New duties to include chairing/co-chairing a committee

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The San Luis City Council recently appointed member Luis E. Cabrera to serve as the San Luis Representative to the Western Arizona Economic Development District (WAEDD).

According to the WAEDD, his new duties include overseeing the District's membership, as well as chairing or co-chairing a committee. The appointment took place Wednesday, September 8.

“I thank my colleagues from Council for the appointment to WAEDD. I look forward to working with the rest of WAEDD’s Board Members to ensure we bring funding for infrastructure projects that help the growth of San Luis," shared Cabrera.

WAEDD is a federally designated Economic Development District (EDD) that looks to increase economic productivity involving the public, private and non-profit sectors. Its main goal is to drive rural prosperity in areas such as the Desert Southwest.

"I am excited to be able to provide my support to the board and promote our community for future economic development,” Cabrera added.

The United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) designated Western Arizona as WAEDD on June 30, 2020. Per the EDA, they're dedicated "to providing financial assistance to economic development in western Arizona's distressed communities."
