ECRMC provides free workout to local seniors

The medical center helps seniors stay active - 13 On Your Side's Vince Ybarra reports

EL CENTRO, Calif. - (KECY, KYMA) El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) is welcoming folks who wants to break a sweat with a morning workout on Wednesdays at Imperial Valley Mall (IVM).

ECRMC has an agreement with IVM to open their doors early. It gives locals a safe space to walk away from the valley’s rough weather conditions. Rosanna Lugo, Marketing Director at ECRMC, says there was an opportunity to offer more than just a safe space to walk in the morning.

Lugo said ECRMC started offering a free workout class using space in the mall before it opens to the public.

“It’s always good to be healthy, exercising, eating well,” said Lugo.

She said that the workout class has made a difference for regular attendee’s since starting las summer. Lugo said there are people who come every week to workout during the one hour class.

Hojin Kim, an Imperial Valley resident, said she is grateful for the opportunity to start her morning with a workout class. She said it’s helped her find routine with exercise.

“I’m so happy to come here every Wednesday. To have strength and like activities, like physical activities. It makes my life better,” said Kim.

Lugo said although the class sees mostly senior citizens in attendance, the space is open to all ages. She said ECRMC will expand the workout program into nutrition, offering cooking classes in the next couple weeks.
