New Details: Man dead after confrontation with Calexico police

Officers say it began with a stabbing at a bus stop - News 11's Vince Ybarra reports

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Police Department (CPD) confirmed Tuesday an officer involved shooting did end in the death of a suspect.

Officers say they responded to a report of a stabbing around six at the bus stop near Pauline Avenue and Third Street. They say they arrived to find one man with a stab wound, and another with a knife tied around his wrist.

Police say they ordered the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. CPD says that's when at least one of the officers opened fire. Paramedics rushed the man to El Centro Regional Medical Center, but he died from his injuries.

Police have not identified the man, but do say he was 65-years-old. Officers haven't identified the victim either.

The Imperial County Sheriff's Office (ICSO) has taken over the investigation into the case. Deputies are releasing few details at this time, but we will continue to following this developing story and bring you updates as we get them.
